Narrative:

Dispatched with autoplt on mco. During control check right elevator position indicator operations normal. Did not notice that left elevator position indicator was inoperative. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter states that 'mco' is his air carrier's jargon for 'maintenance carry over', or deferred maintenance. One of the circuit breakers that was pulled disabled the elevator position indicating system. This was noticed by an FAA aci riding on the jumpseat. The reporter's chief pilot has gotten most of the crewmen involved to report to the ASRS. The reporter has not heard from the FAA, and does not know if any other crew person has. Supplemental information from acn 261295: we reported to airplane (B-727) to find maintenance working on the autoplt. They were unable to repair the problem so we dispatched with the autoplt inoperative. 2 circuit breakers were pulled and clamped. Unknown to us at the time, 1 circuit breaker also disabled the flight control surface position indicator. The captain and first officer completed the flight control check during the taxi checklist and found them to work ok. Nobody noticed the inoperative gauge. Supplemental information from acn 261541: a single autoplt warning circuit breaker was pulled and collared. All other aircraft system and instruments operated normally.
