Narrative:
Visual approach to lax runway 24R from smo. Crossed smo approximately 9000 ft, 210 KTS, heading 070 degrees per ATC. Turned to 160 degrees/180 KTS abeam romen per ATC. Cleared visual to runway 24R. Due to being somewhat high, somewhat fast, wind from north, and limited visual reference to runway due to turn, we overshot the centerline for runway 24R, strayed south of runway 24, received TCASII alert for aircraft on 25 approach (reduce descent). Corrected situation and landed 24R without incident. Contributing factors: fatigue (11 hour flight). Fixation -- I may have visually picked up runway 25 complex in turn, rather than runway 24. First officer was busy with checklist/communication. ATC gave a rather short approach, high and fast. Lessons: plan ahead, stay ahead, don't let other factors lead you into potential problems.

Title: CAPT OF AN LGT ACR ACFT OVERSHOT FINAL APCH COURSE DURING TURN TO FINAL FOR A VISUAL APCH. RESULT, A TCASII RA.
Narrative: VISUAL APCH TO LAX RWY 24R FROM SMO. CROSSED SMO APPROX 9000 FT, 210 KTS, HDG 070 DEGS PER ATC. TURNED TO 160 DEGS/180 KTS ABEAM ROMEN PER ATC. CLRED VISUAL TO RWY 24R. DUE TO BEING SOMEWHAT HIGH, SOMEWHAT FAST, WIND FROM N, AND LIMITED VISUAL REF TO RWY DUE TO TURN, WE OVERSHOT THE CTRLINE FOR RWY 24R, STRAYED S OF RWY 24, RECEIVED TCASII ALERT FOR ACFT ON 25 APCH (REDUCE DSCNT). CORRECTED SIT AND LANDED 24R WITHOUT INCIDENT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: FATIGUE (11 HR FLT). FIXATION -- I MAY HAVE VISUALLY PICKED UP RWY 25 COMPLEX IN TURN, RATHER THAN RWY 24. FO WAS BUSY WITH CHKLIST/COM. ATC GAVE A RATHER SHORT APCH, HIGH AND FAST. LESSONS: PLAN AHEAD, STAY AHEAD, DON'T LET OTHER FACTORS LEAD YOU INTO POTENTIAL PROBS.
