Narrative:
Aircraft X was on ILS approach to runway 34 at slc. I lost his radar beacon target for 6 mi on final. Asked the pilot if he was still being interrogated and he said yes. The transponder was probably being interrogated by ZLC's radar. The slc ASR 9 would not track the aircraft's transponder.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATC EQUIP PROB RADAR ASR-9 LOSS OF TARGET.
Narrative: ACFT X WAS ON ILS APCH TO RWY 34 AT SLC. I LOST HIS RADAR BEACON TARGET FOR 6 MI ON FINAL. ASKED THE PLT IF HE WAS STILL BEING INTERROGATED AND HE SAID YES. THE XPONDER WAS PROBABLY BEING INTERROGATED BY ZLC'S RADAR. THE SLC ASR 9 WOULD NOT TRACK THE ACFT'S XPONDER.
