Narrative:
On dec/fri/93, I was called at XT35 local for a repos flight from jfk to rdu. My sequence called for a deadhead from rdu to jfk at XU35. My duty time, or reserve requirement put me on call at XA00 local the night before. After accepting the aircraft from maintenance in jfk (XX00 local), we departed for rdu. At this point we were already pushing our limits for fatigue, but continued to rdu. Upon calling company in range (10 mins out), our crew scheduling department tried to reassign a functional test flight to us at XC30 local. If you look at our day, we woke up at XJ30 local, got assigned at XT35 and reassigned at XC30 the next morning for a 1 hour test flight. Where is our 'duty day?' where do the 14 hours begin for reserve crews? This type of abuse occurs constantly at air carrier and other regionals. This abuse needs to stop -- fatigued crews are accidents waiting to happen. My duty day was a total of 15 1/2 hours without a rest period. Let's situation down and put better rules down to control these abuses of the very vague rest requirements for reserve crew members!!!
