Narrative:
After pushback was initiated, the ground crew commanded 'set your brakes now!' I brought the aircraft to an abrupt halt. The tow bar had failed allowing the airplane to roll backwards by itself. The situation was explained to the passenger, the engines were started and we pwred out and flew to den. Approximately 30 mins out from den a flight attendant was in the cockpit. I asked her if everyone was ok after the abrupt stop. She said she had whiplash and was going to write it up. She had worked the trip normally and did not request medical attention upon arrival. No complaints from passenger.
