Narrative:

SF340, climbing out of sgf, mo, we were assigned 15000 ft direct gilmone VOR. Controller then assigned 9000 ft due to traffic in area. Did not specify where traffic was. Then the controller assigned us 10000 ft, which I acknowledged and as we climbed up to 10000 ft, a GA aircraft (possibly a bonanza) crossed right over our flight path less than 500 ft above us. No time for evasive action. I do not think the controller was aware of the situation. He may have used the wrong call sign and meant another commuter airline to climb up to 10000 ft.
