Narrative:
During the early morning hours there was some sort of power problem at the ASR-9 site. When maintenance tried to go from backup to commercial power, the unit would not change. Duke power was called, the traffic flow to clt was reduced. Commercial power was restored at XA45. Clt evidently needs help in fixing the ASR-9 concerning power problems. This issue isn't getting better. There has been no more said about a modification used at mco that eliminated this problem. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated the power source to the ASR-9 at clt is an ongoing problem. There is a standing ucr on file about the ASR-9 but a ucr has not been filed on the power source. The assistant air traffic manager said a power surge modification was installed at mco which corrected the problem but maintenance has not installed the modification at clt.

Title: ATC EQUIP PROB RADAR PWR SOURCE.
Narrative: DURING THE EARLY MORNING HRS THERE WAS SOME SORT OF PWR PROB AT THE ASR-9 SITE. WHEN MAINT TRIED TO GO FROM BACKUP TO COMMERCIAL PWR, THE UNIT WOULD NOT CHANGE. DUKE PWR WAS CALLED, THE TFC FLOW TO CLT WAS REDUCED. COMMERCIAL PWR WAS RESTORED AT XA45. CLT EVIDENTLY NEEDS HELP IN FIXING THE ASR-9 CONCERNING PWR PROBS. THIS ISSUE ISN'T GETTING BETTER. THERE HAS BEEN NO MORE SAID ABOUT A MODIFICATION USED AT MCO THAT ELIMINATED THIS PROB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THE PWR SOURCE TO THE ASR-9 AT CLT IS AN ONGOING PROB. THERE IS A STANDING UCR ON FILE ABOUT THE ASR-9 BUT A UCR HAS NOT BEEN FILED ON THE PWR SOURCE. THE ASSISTANT AIR TFC MGR SAID A PWR SURGE MODIFICATION WAS INSTALLED AT MCO WHICH CORRECTED THE PROB BUT MAINT HAS NOT INSTALLED THE MODIFICATION AT CLT.
