Narrative:
Left dab VOR mco on regularly scheduled flight. After retracting gear, red light for nosewheel stayed on. Cycled gear and successfully caused red light to go out. Proceeded to mco (longer runways) and lowered gear, observed 3 green lights, and landed without incident. Made entry in maintenance log. Met chief pilot while entering operations. He said that I should not have 'written up' the gear because now they will have to cancel a flight. His logic was 'it works now, there is no problem!' the mechanic had also tried to get me to not write up the gear. He said it was probably due to 'a reverse photon' in attempting to explain the problem. After taking aircraft to the hangar for a gear swing I found out that this is the third write-up for this problem this yr. The mechanics made adjustments in the nose assembly. Air carrier flight operations management has fostered a culture where pilots and mechanics are discouraged from writing up aircraft. I understand they generate a list showing which pilots make a lot of write- ups. Pilots who follow their philosophy are promoted to training/management. Mechanics who follow get the flight line mechanic jobs (day shift). This is not the first time chief pilot has tried to intimidate me. I filed a NASA report on his last pass (I believe that was aug/93). We are on union shop, so I have some protection. If we were not union, there is not doubt in my mind I would have been fired by now.

Title: RPTR CRITICIZED BY MGMNT WHEN HE WROTE UP AN ACFT MECHANICAL PROB.
Narrative: LEFT DAB VOR MCO ON REGULARLY SCHEDULED FLT. AFTER RETRACTING GEAR, RED LIGHT FOR NOSEWHEEL STAYED ON. CYCLED GEAR AND SUCCESSFULLY CAUSED RED LIGHT TO GO OUT. PROCEEDED TO MCO (LONGER RWYS) AND LOWERED GEAR, OBSERVED 3 GREEN LIGHTS, AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. MADE ENTRY IN MAINT LOG. MET CHIEF PLT WHILE ENTERING OPS. HE SAID THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE 'WRITTEN UP' THE GEAR BECAUSE NOW THEY WILL HAVE TO CANCEL A FLT. HIS LOGIC WAS 'IT WORKS NOW, THERE IS NO PROB!' THE MECH HAD ALSO TRIED TO GET ME TO NOT WRITE UP THE GEAR. HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO 'A REVERSE PHOTON' IN ATTEMPTING TO EXPLAIN THE PROB. AFTER TAKING ACFT TO THE HANGAR FOR A GEAR SWING I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS THE THIRD WRITE-UP FOR THIS PROB THIS YR. THE MECHS MADE ADJUSTMENTS IN THE NOSE ASSEMBLY. ACR FLT OPS MGMNT HAS FOSTERED A CULTURE WHERE PLTS AND MECHS ARE DISCOURAGED FROM WRITING UP ACFT. I UNDERSTAND THEY GENERATE A LIST SHOWING WHICH PLTS MAKE A LOT OF WRITE- UPS. PLTS WHO FOLLOW THEIR PHILOSOPHY ARE PROMOTED TO TRAINING/MGMNT. MECHS WHO FOLLOW GET THE FLT LINE MECH JOBS (DAY SHIFT). THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME CHIEF PLT HAS TRIED TO INTIMIDATE ME. I FILED A NASA RPT ON HIS LAST PASS (I BELIEVE THAT WAS AUG/93). WE ARE ON UNION SHOP, SO I HAVE SOME PROTECTION. IF WE WERE NOT UNION, THERE IS NOT DOUBT IN MY MIND I WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED BY NOW.
