Narrative:
We were on the inner proceeding to gate when ground told us to transition to za at kilo. It was wet, dark, and many taxi lights were out. Instead of getting onto za we mistakenly entered the vehicle lane. We continued to gate without incident, called ground control and company ramp. They both said no problem and that it's almost a regular occurrence. Suggest that pilots proceed with caution when taxiing in this area at lga airport. And suggest that lga port authority consider improving lighting and markings in this area. If night, wet, and a little unfamiliar, it's very easy to miss.
