Narrative:
Takeoff out of oaj on a flight to clt thunderstorms, line 2 mi west of airport cleared by willmington approach X for release on the climb. Immediately after takeoff took evasive action. For thunderstorms avoidance, cleared direct kinston (VOR). After established on course, unable to maintain due to WX (line of thunderstorms level 2 and 3's) avoiding to the east of course (frequency change to ZDC) after initial communication check, extremely busy, forgot to advise. Tried twice after to advise, no response. 2 mins later center came back and asked if we were deviating -- yes. Center then proceeded to read me the riot act. I then read them the riot act on the importance of communication with aircraft and wilmington, nc, approach in adverse WX (no conflict with other aircraft).

Title: ACR MLG DEVIATES AROUND HVY TSTMS JUST AFTER TKOF AND DID NOT ADVISE ATC.
Narrative: TKOF OUT OF OAJ ON A FLT TO CLT TSTMS, LINE 2 MI WEST OF ARPT CLRED BY WILLMINGTON APCH X FOR RELEASE ON THE CLB. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF TOOK EVASIVE ACTION. FOR TSTMS AVOIDANCE, CLRED DIRECT KINSTON (VOR). AFTER ESTABLISHED ON COURSE, UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DUE TO WX (LINE OF TSTMS LEVEL 2 AND 3'S) AVOIDING TO THE E OF COURSE (FREQ CHANGE TO ZDC) AFTER INITIAL COM CHK, EXTREMELY BUSY, FORGOT TO ADVISE. TRIED TWICE AFTER TO ADVISE, NO RESPONSE. 2 MINS LATER CTR CAME BACK AND ASKED IF WE WERE DEVIATING -- YES. CTR THEN PROCEEDED TO READ ME THE RIOT ACT. I THEN READ THEM THE RIOT ACT ON THE IMPORTANCE OF COM WITH ACFT AND WILMINGTON, NC, APCH IN ADVERSE WX (NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT).
