Narrative:
During pre-flight gauges and visual inspection showed both fuel tanks to be full. 50 gallons total, 48 gallons usable. To my last knowledge aircraft burned 9 gallons per hour. While approximately 40 mi out of syr, noticed fuel burning too quickly. Notified approach of fuel problem and diverted to oswego county airport for fuel. Ran out fuel approximately 2 mi northwest of airport and emergency landed in field with approximately 3 ft of snow. Aircraft not totaled and repairable.
