Narrative:
During landing gear retraction on a flight from sfo to lax we heard a loud slapping and rubbing sound from the nose gear area. Had sfo tower sweep runway 1L for debris. No debris found on runway, suspected damaged nose gear or tires. Continued flight to lax to burn off fuel and better WX conditions. Had flight attendants prepare cabin for emergency landing and possible evacuate/evacuation. Had emergency equipment standing by at lax. All cabin preparations were completed prior to our approach at lax. Crew, flight attendant and passenger were briefed about landing. Landing was normal except that nosewheels were held off until approximately 80-90 KIAS. Aircraft was stopped on runway, inspected, and taxied to the gate. One of the nose tires was a recap and threw its tread off. The mechanics who inspected the nose tires after landing said that the company had a lot of problems with this particular brand of recap tire.
