Narrative:
On departure from las using the oveto I departure and approaching 170000 ft MSL, ZLA noted that we were not adhering to the exact departure procedure, as dictated by the oveto I departure. There was no conflict caused by this deviation, however, the controller asked if we were on an assigned heading. Our response was that we were proceeding direct to dove creek and the controller then cleared us direct to dove creek. The reason the deviation occurred was that I did not enter the oveto I departure into the route portion of the FMC. What I did enter was the flight plan routing which was las J-146 gld. I did not get the clearance until 10 mins prior to pushback and then became distracted with other cockpit duties. As soon as I received the clearance, I should have entered the correct departure into the FMC. Normally we do get the pre departure clearance from the aircraft printer, however, this aircraft did not have pre departure clearance capabilities. Whenever we receive clearance, a doublechk of route is imperative.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A FLC FAILED TO ENTER ITS SID INTO ITS FMC.
Narrative: ON DEP FROM LAS USING THE OVETO I DEP AND APCHING 170000 FT MSL, ZLA NOTED THAT WE WERE NOT ADHERING TO THE EXACT DEP PROC, AS DICTATED BY THE OVETO I DEP. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT CAUSED BY THIS DEV, HOWEVER, THE CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE ON AN ASSIGNED HDG. OUR RESPONSE WAS THAT WE WERE PROCEEDING DIRECT TO DOVE CREEK AND THE CTLR THEN CLRED US DIRECT TO DOVE CREEK. THE REASON THE DEV OCCURRED WAS THAT I DID NOT ENTER THE OVETO I DEP INTO THE RTE PORTION OF THE FMC. WHAT I DID ENTER WAS THE FLT PLAN ROUTING WHICH WAS LAS J-146 GLD. I DID NOT GET THE CLRNC UNTIL 10 MINS PRIOR TO PUSHBACK AND THEN BECAME DISTRACTED WITH OTHER COCKPIT DUTIES. AS SOON AS I RECEIVED THE CLRNC, I SHOULD HAVE ENTERED THE CORRECT DEP INTO THE FMC. NORMALLY WE DO GET THE PDC FROM THE ACFT PRINTER, HOWEVER, THIS ACFT DID NOT HAVE PDC CAPABILITIES. WHENEVER WE RECEIVE CLRNC, A DOUBLECHK OF RTE IS IMPERATIVE.
