Narrative:
Severe nose wheel shimmy on takeoff roll blew out the right main gear light. Aborted takeoff and replaced bulb. Nose wheel steering operated normally and performed 2ND takeoff without further incident. However, I failed to notify our coordinator prior to the 2ND takeoff. I did so after landing in boston, both orally and a written statement within 24 hours. According to our company director of flight standards, I was in violation. Dispatch should have been notified prior to the 2ND takeoff. As a 4 yr captain on the sf-340 aircraft, and with extensive training and knowledge of this aircraft's system, I acted under my own initiative, prior to consulting with the first officer. We both agreed that this problem would not effect the safety nor the airworthiness of the aircraft. Better company training on policies and procedures could have prevented this.
