Narrative:
During our VFR climb out of hwd en route to tvl out of 3500 ft MSL over dublin, we were asked by approach control (we were on flight following on 127.0 bay approach) if we had seen air carrier airlines. When we responded negatively, we were advised that he needed to take evasive action due to TCASII alert. We were both in VFR conditions in uncontrolled airspace. This reinforces the need to maintain greater vigilance when working in high density areas, to keep your eyes outside the cockpit. We contacted bay approach upon our return and asked them over the phone if there was anything we could do to remedy this in the future. They advised us to remain below 2500 ft until radar contact is actually made due to the fact that this area is their standard routing into oak out of the north.
