Narrative:
After WX briefing from rancho cordova around early morning, flight VFR and flight following from sacramento area, planned to leave at XA30 am, so as to arrive camarillo area afternoon when the WX was forecast to lift to local conditions and a visual approach could be made to landing at cma. WX did not cooperate. Briefer did not give NOTAMS on cma VOR approach due to VFR planned. Did not take an approach plate for the VOR approach and had to copy same from the ATC facility, which we used. Both VHF radios decided to become very hard to understand and required attention after getting on the ground -- both receiving and transmitting. After landing tried to call by telephone to thank the approach control persons and was unable to get through (may have been the wrong phone number was given to me by a local FBO). Next flight to the coastal fog area I will carry plates and probably file IFR. We did break out and had ground contact at approximately 2600 ft on the approach.

Title: FLT ASSIST TO PLT OF SMT WHO DID NOT HAVE APCH PLATE FOR IAP VOR APCH AT CMA.
Narrative: AFTER WX BRIEFING FROM RANCHO CORDOVA AROUND EARLY MORNING, FLT VFR AND FLT FOLLOWING FROM SACRAMENTO AREA, PLANNED TO LEAVE AT XA30 AM, SO AS TO ARRIVE CAMARILLO AREA AFTERNOON WHEN THE WX WAS FORECAST TO LIFT TO LCL CONDITIONS AND A VISUAL APCH COULD BE MADE TO LNDG AT CMA. WX DID NOT COOPERATE. BRIEFER DID NOT GIVE NOTAMS ON CMA VOR APCH DUE TO VFR PLANNED. DID NOT TAKE AN APCH PLATE FOR THE VOR APCH AND HAD TO COPY SAME FROM THE ATC FACILITY, WHICH WE USED. BOTH VHF RADIOS DECIDED TO BECOME VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND REQUIRED ATTN AFTER GETTING ON THE GND -- BOTH RECEIVING AND XMITTING. AFTER LNDG TRIED TO CALL BY TELEPHONE TO THANK THE APCH CTL PERSONS AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THROUGH (MAY HAVE BEEN THE WRONG PHONE NUMBER WAS GIVEN TO ME BY A LCL FBO). NEXT FLT TO THE COASTAL FOG AREA I WILL CARRY PLATES AND PROBABLY FILE IFR. WE DID BREAK OUT AND HAD GND CONTACT AT APPROX 2600 FT ON THE APCH.
