Narrative:

Oil started gushing out of right engine (oil bracket supporting oil filter had broken on 1976 C-414). Shut down right engine. Advised center of problem stating, 'we really have a problem and we're shutting down right engine.' lost altitude to 14000 ft. Center wondered why we had left our altitude and asked if we had trouble maintaining altitude. Advised 'affirmative.' cleared to 8000 ft. I failed to declare an emergency (situation was under control). Thought that my statement explained the situation. I was 5000 ft above the single engine service ceiling and this is why I lost altitude. Aircraft landed safely and without incident.
