Narrative:

While on downwind for runway 14, a tanker, who had just landed, advised us of 'heavy flack on short final.' as we turned base we observed fireworks going off at our altitude, approximately 1 - 1 1/2 mi out the extended centerline of runway 14. We elected to turn final early and dogleg towards the runway. As we rolled out on final, one of the displays went off just behind our right wing. I have 2 questions: 1) who approved a fireworks demonstration so close to an airport? 2) why was it not notamed?
