Narrative:
Flight pit-ord. On takeoff from runway 28R pit an aircraft on ground said we had 'something coming off wings.' tower reiterated statement. At approximately 500 ft the mdfu gave a fuel automatic feed fault. We had been handed off to departure, then to ZOB. Told center we wanted to return back to pit. We descended back down to 8000 ft (received clearance passing near 8800 ft). Requested emergency equipment for landing as a precaution. Fuel had been siphoning out of drains. Landed without incident and returned to gate. Checked fueling panel and found that the fueler had not properly closed switches panel.
