Narrative:
On takeoff runway 11 newark, aft drain mast for lavatory drain was scraped on runway. The contributing factors were, the first officer over rotated due to the short runway and the extreme roughness of this runway about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down. The aft drain mast was slightly scraped. No other damage to the aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 277446: aft lavatory drain mast had been dragged on takeoff. I am a new copilot on the B737-300/500, having spent the last 7 yrs as a B727 flight engineer. The shortness of the runway and the sight of the bridge and cranes off the departure end of the runway affected the timing and speed of rotation. Runway 11 is pretty bumpy due to age and some repaving on the crossing runway. This could have caused enough of an unintended increase in pitch during takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR MLG OVER ROTATED ON TKOF.
Narrative: ON TKOF RWY 11 NEWARK, AFT DRAIN MAST FOR LAVATORY DRAIN WAS SCRAPED ON RWY. THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE, THE FO OVER ROTATED DUE TO THE SHORT RWY AND THE EXTREME ROUGHNESS OF THIS RWY ABOUT 2/3 TO 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN. THE AFT DRAIN MAST WAS SLIGHTLY SCRAPED. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 277446: AFT LAVATORY DRAIN MAST HAD BEEN DRAGGED ON TKOF. I AM A NEW COPLT ON THE B737-300/500, HAVING SPENT THE LAST 7 YRS AS A B727 FE. THE SHORTNESS OF THE RWY AND THE SIGHT OF THE BRIDGE AND CRANES OFF THE DEP END OF THE RWY AFFECTED THE TIMING AND SPD OF ROTATION. RWY 11 IS PRETTY BUMPY DUE TO AGE AND SOME REPAVING ON THE XING RWY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED ENOUGH OF AN UNINTENDED INCREASE IN PITCH DURING TKOF.
