Narrative:
We landed in pit on runway 28L and exited runway 28L at C-3, highspd exit. We were switched to ground control and ground control cleared us to the ramp via C and C-2. As we approached the intersection of C-3, C and V txwys, we were directed to make the next half turn. We ended up on taxiway V and, as we approached the end of runway 28C, ground control radioed 'air carrier, stop.' we stopped and ground control asked if we had stopped short of runway 28C. We acknowledged that we had stopped short of runway 28C. Ground control repeated our original taxi instructions and we acknowledged that we were holding short of runway 28C at V. Ground control said that he could see that we were holding short of runway 28C. Then we were cleared to cross runway 28C and to the ramp via D and C-2. After we had crossed runway 28C, ground control said that an aircraft had aborted their takeoff on runway 28C. Ground control said that we had said that we were holding short of runway 28C and he could see that we were holding short of runway 28C. We taxied to the ramp via D and C-2. The situation at the pit airport will improve when they install the new standard taxiway and runway signs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DURING TAXI INTO RAMP AREA ACFT MAKES A WRONG TURN BUT DOES NOT ENTER ONTO ACTIVE RWY. ACFT ON ACTIVE RWY ABORTS TKOF AS HE IS NOT CERTAIN TAXI ACFT IS CLR.
Narrative: WE LANDED IN PIT ON RWY 28L AND EXITED RWY 28L AT C-3, HIGHSPD EXIT. WE WERE SWITCHED TO GND CTL AND GND CTL CLRED US TO THE RAMP VIA C AND C-2. AS WE APCHED THE INTXN OF C-3, C AND V TXWYS, WE WERE DIRECTED TO MAKE THE NEXT HALF TURN. WE ENDED UP ON TXWY V AND, AS WE APCHED THE END OF RWY 28C, GND CTL RADIOED 'ACR, STOP.' WE STOPPED AND GND CTL ASKED IF WE HAD STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 28C. WE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT WE HAD STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 28C. GND CTL REPEATED OUR ORIGINAL TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND WE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 28C AT V. GND CTL SAID THAT HE COULD SEE THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 28C. THEN WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 28C AND TO THE RAMP VIA D AND C-2. AFTER WE HAD CROSSED RWY 28C, GND CTL SAID THAT AN ACFT HAD ABORTED THEIR TKOF ON RWY 28C. GND CTL SAID THAT WE HAD SAID THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 28C AND HE COULD SEE THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 28C. WE TAXIED TO THE RAMP VIA D AND C-2. THE SIT AT THE PIT ARPT WILL IMPROVE WHEN THEY INSTALL THE NEW STANDARD TXWY AND RWY SIGNS.
