Narrative:

En route from syr to bos, while cruising at 15000 ft MSL, on avionics smoke warning light illuminated on the caution warning panel. After following checklist and procedures which required us to land as soon as possible, alb was the closest point in time and was chosen. During descent, the warning light extinguished. It remained off until final approach was initiated, then reilluminated and remained on for the remainder of the flight. ATC had been advised from the beginning that we were requesting a precautionary landing in alb. No smoke or other indications were present. Supplemental information from acn 281805: during the descent, the 2AVIONICS smoke light extinguished and remained off, thus presenting the likelihood of a faulty signal.
