Narrative:

Aircraft cleared by ground control to push back from gate referencing a company 727 pushed back from another gate. Mechanic began pushback and stopped suddenly. When he was asked what we hit, he said nothing yet. Another mechanic approached the airplane and the mechanic driving the tug said he was pulling us back into the gate. The captain requested the jetway be returned. The flight attendant came up and reported that a passenger told her we just hit a baggage cart. The captain got off the airplane to look at the damage. When he returned he told me that the mechanic told him that as the 727 pwred up to leave the area he blew a baggage cart into the left flap fairing. The aircraft was taken OTS.
