Narrative:
Flight landed runway 25R and exited runway at taxiway A6, headed for gate satellite 1. Flight passed behind an airbus, headed east on taxiway B, and turned north on taxiway B5 towards the gate. Just before turning right into the gate we noticed a B-737 in close (but not dangerous) proximity on our left, who was barely moving. He made a comment on ground control frequency that apparently we were seeing how close to him we could get. We immediately turned farther right and apologized on the radio. Ground control didn't mention either of the aircraft in our clearance 'taxi to the gate.' contributing factors: failure to look enough out the side windows. Our flight had not been taxiing fast.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF MLG HAD GND CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER MLG WHILE TAXIING TO GATE AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: FLT LANDED RWY 25R AND EXITED RWY AT TXWY A6, HEADED FOR GATE SATELLITE 1. FLT PASSED BEHIND AN AIRBUS, HEADED E ON TXWY B, AND TURNED N ON TXWY B5 TOWARDS THE GATE. JUST BEFORE TURNING R INTO THE GATE WE NOTICED A B-737 IN CLOSE (BUT NOT DANGEROUS) PROX ON OUR L, WHO WAS BARELY MOVING. HE MADE A COMMENT ON GND CTL FREQ THAT APPARENTLY WE WERE SEEING HOW CLOSE TO HIM WE COULD GET. WE IMMEDIATELY TURNED FARTHER R AND APOLOGIZED ON THE RADIO. GND CTL DIDN'T MENTION EITHER OF THE ACFT IN OUR CLRNC 'TAXI TO THE GATE.' CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: FAILURE TO LOOK ENOUGH OUT THE SIDE WINDOWS. OUR FLT HAD NOT BEEN TAXIING FAST.
