Narrative:
While landing on runway 21L at cincinnati's lunken airport the PIC allowed the aircraft to strike a runway threshold light lens with the left main landing gear tire. The events immediately preceding this incident happened in such a short period of time that I (the PNF) could not respond quickly enough to prevent these events from happening. The approach to landing was entirely uneventful and carried out in compliance with guidelines in regards to safe aircraft operations. During transition from the approach to landing phase to the flare/touchdown phase, the aircraft struck the threshold landing light. The rate of descent was not sufficiently arrested to prevent an unintentional altitude loss that resulted in damage to the runway threshold post light. Given speed, aircraft confign, and the unavailability of immediate power (after final power reduction) corrective action was to no avail. The damage sustained by the aircraft was limited to a cut in the tire. The only damage to the light was a broken lens and housing. All of these actions were unintentional, only corrective actions prior to final power reduction can assure that this type of incident will not occur again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CHARTER SMT HITS THRESHOLD LIGHT ON APCH TO LNDG.
Narrative: WHILE LNDG ON RWY 21L AT CINCINNATI'S LUNKEN ARPT THE PIC ALLOWED THE ACFT TO STRIKE A RWY THRESHOLD LIGHT LENS WITH THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR TIRE. THE EVENTS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THAT I (THE PNF) COULD NOT RESPOND QUICKLY ENOUGH TO PREVENT THESE EVENTS FROM HAPPENING. THE APCH TO LNDG WAS ENTIRELY UNEVENTFUL AND CARRIED OUT IN COMPLIANCE WITH GUIDELINES IN REGARDS TO SAFE ACFT OPS. DURING TRANSITION FROM THE APCH TO LNDG PHASE TO THE FLARE/TOUCHDOWN PHASE, THE ACFT STRUCK THE THRESHOLD LNDG LIGHT. THE RATE OF DSCNT WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY ARRESTED TO PREVENT AN UNINTENTIONAL ALT LOSS THAT RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE RWY THRESHOLD POST LIGHT. GIVEN SPD, ACFT CONFIGN, AND THE UNAVAILABILITY OF IMMEDIATE PWR (AFTER FINAL PWR REDUCTION) CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TO NO AVAIL. THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED BY THE ACFT WAS LIMITED TO A CUT IN THE TIRE. THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THE LIGHT WAS A BROKEN LENS AND HOUSING. ALL OF THESE ACTIONS WERE UNINTENTIONAL, ONLY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS PRIOR TO FINAL PWR REDUCTION CAN ASSURE THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN.
