Narrative:
En route nepta to cce we encountered a n-s solid line of thunderstorms. Notified ATC of our intent to deviate north. While deviating we asked the controller how much further north we could go. After a long pause, the controller replied that we needed to turn southeast now. Any right turn was impossible due to heavy thunderstorms and we advised that we could only turn left. He said that would put us in restr airspace and we would have to exercise emergency authority/authorized to do so. We had no other option.
