Narrative:

While en route from midway airport to the downtown area at night, I experienced a near midair collision approximately 2 mi west of the meigs airport. Radar service had just been terminated with midway and I had switched to the meigs CTAF when a helicopter passed by approximately 100 ft to left at the same altitude. I did not see the other helicopter until it was approximately 200-300 ft away. There was no time to perform any type of evasive maneuver. It was very difficult to see the other helicopter because of all the tall buildings and city lights behind it. We were on different frequencys which also contributed to my not being aware of his position. Note: meigs tower was closed.
