Narrative:
The clearance requires a pilot initiated turn at freese intersection, then proceed to pye VOR. We had begun our climb to 7000 ft and were established on the 202 degree radial from sts. At 9 DME, the turn was supposed to be initiated. The first officer had gone off frequency to call in times and enter them in the ship's log. I had momentarily diverted by attention to this also and missed freese and the turn. We proceeded approximately another 5 mi on the 202 degree radial (sts) before ATC asked if we had 'missed our turn.' we responded in the affirmative and initiated a reintercept of the pye 155 degree radial. No other ATC help or guidance was offered. This was the 13TH of 14 legs. Our day started at XA55 am and ended at XB00 pm with 14 legs 8.8 hours block time and no meal breaks. The longest break was 20 mins. Usually no breaks. The flts were (and are) scheduled well under actual block so we are almost always late. Then, to compound the issue, we are scheduled for several 'quick turns' leaving no time to even go to the bathroom. I sincerely believe quick, strong and complete overhaul of the commuter pilot duty and day regulations must be implemented before more lives are lost to this absurd scheduling (all commuter airlines are guilty of it).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MISSED SID TURN POINT.
Narrative: THE CLRNC REQUIRES A PLT INITIATED TURN AT FREESE INTXN, THEN PROCEED TO PYE VOR. WE HAD BEGUN OUR CLB TO 7000 FT AND WERE ESTABLISHED ON THE 202 DEG RADIAL FROM STS. AT 9 DME, THE TURN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE INITIATED. THE FO HAD GONE OFF FREQ TO CALL IN TIMES AND ENTER THEM IN THE SHIP'S LOG. I HAD MOMENTARILY DIVERTED BY ATTN TO THIS ALSO AND MISSED FREESE AND THE TURN. WE PROCEEDED APPROX ANOTHER 5 MI ON THE 202 DEG RADIAL (STS) BEFORE ATC ASKED IF WE HAD 'MISSED OUR TURN.' WE RESPONDED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE AND INITIATED A REINTERCEPT OF THE PYE 155 DEG RADIAL. NO OTHER ATC HELP OR GUIDANCE WAS OFFERED. THIS WAS THE 13TH OF 14 LEGS. OUR DAY STARTED AT XA55 AM AND ENDED AT XB00 PM WITH 14 LEGS 8.8 HRS BLOCK TIME AND NO MEAL BREAKS. I SINCERELY BELIEVE QUICK, STRONG AND COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE COMMUTER PLT DUTY AND DAY REGULATIONS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST TO THIS ABSURD SCHEDULING (ALL COMMUTER AIRLINES ARE GUILTY OF IT).
