Narrative:

The aircraft had an MEL item written up in the log. The write-up was the inverse of what actually was the problem. We discovered this later if it had been correctly entered in MEL weight penalty should have been noted on the paperwork. At our takeoff and landing weights it was no factor. But, if the aircraft had been heavier, it would have limited us. Maintenance was advised of error.
