Narrative:
Air carrier X dfw-fsm. Prior to departure and taxi, first officer briefed me on departure procedure. He stated it was only a turn to 030 degrees after takeoff and then radar vectors on course. I took his word for it since he is familiar with dfw and I was just transferred to dfw by the company. We departed off runway 13L and I made a left turn 030 degrees. Departure control questioned us on our heading. The first officer stated 030 degrees as depicted on the departure procedure. The controller had us turn to an easterly heading and later asked us to call the TRACON by phone. Upon arrival at fsm, I called dfw TRACON and talked with the supervisor on duty. He stated that I should pay more attention to the departure procedure and I agreed. The tri-gate departure procedure for runway 13L is to fly 120 degrees radar vectors on course. Being unfamiliar with dfw and all departure, arrival, and approach procedures, I should have been vigilant enough to review the departure procedure for myself. Unfortunately, I placed too much trust in my first officer's lax briefing. In the future I will make an extra effort in reviewing departure procedures.

Title: ACR X NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC TURNED TO WRONG HDG AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: ACR X DFW-FSM. PRIOR TO DEP AND TAXI, FO BRIEFED ME ON DEP PROC. HE STATED IT WAS ONLY A TURN TO 030 DEGS AFTER TKOF AND THEN RADAR VECTORS ON COURSE. I TOOK HIS WORD FOR IT SINCE HE IS FAMILIAR WITH DFW AND I WAS JUST TRANSFERRED TO DFW BY THE COMPANY. WE DEPARTED OFF RWY 13L AND I MADE A L TURN 030 DEGS. DEP CTL QUESTIONED US ON OUR HDG. THE FO STATED 030 DEGS AS DEPICTED ON THE DEP PROC. THE CTLR HAD US TURN TO AN EASTERLY HDG AND LATER ASKED US TO CALL THE TRACON BY PHONE. UPON ARR AT FSM, I CALLED DFW TRACON AND TALKED WITH THE SUPVR ON DUTY. HE STATED THAT I SHOULD PAY MORE ATTN TO THE DEP PROC AND I AGREED. THE TRI-GATE DEP PROC FOR RWY 13L IS TO FLY 120 DEGS RADAR VECTORS ON COURSE. BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH DFW AND ALL DEP, ARR, AND APCH PROCS, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN VIGILANT ENOUGH TO REVIEW THE DEP PROC FOR MYSELF. UNFORTUNATELY, I PLACED TOO MUCH TRUST IN MY FO'S LAX BRIEFING. IN THE FUTURE I WILL MAKE AN EXTRA EFFORT IN REVIEWING DEP PROCS.
