Narrative:
While taxiing to runway 8R, we were told by ground control to give way to the aircraft exiting the runway. We taxied via taxiway D and taxiway F onto taxiway east, which is runway 8R approach area. After switching to tower, we were informed that we had crossed a hold short that we were not cleared to cross. At that time the captain realized he had committed a runway incursion. When we discussed the event during the postflt, the captain and I agreed that rushing to get to the runway and airborne was a contributing factor. We further agreed that had either one of us asked the other if we were cleared to take the runway, the event probably would not have happened.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT CROSSED RWY HOLD SHORT LINE.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING TO RWY 8R, WE WERE TOLD BY GND CTL TO GIVE WAY TO THE ACFT EXITING THE RWY. WE TAXIED VIA TXWY D AND TXWY F ONTO TXWY E, WHICH IS RWY 8R APCH AREA. AFTER SWITCHING TO TWR, WE WERE INFORMED THAT WE HAD CROSSED A HOLD SHORT THAT WE WERE NOT CLRED TO CROSS. AT THAT TIME THE CAPT REALIZED HE HAD COMMITTED A RWY INCURSION. WHEN WE DISCUSSED THE EVENT DURING THE POSTFLT, THE CAPT AND I AGREED THAT RUSHING TO GET TO THE RWY AND AIRBORNE WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. WE FURTHER AGREED THAT HAD EITHER ONE OF US ASKED THE OTHER IF WE WERE CLRED TO TAKE THE RWY, THE EVENT PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
