Narrative:
Fully configured, stable approach in clear WX, light winds -- at approximately 200 ft AGL the landing gear warning horn sounded with associated left main gear unsafe light on -- performed missed approach and requested extended downwind leg to perform abnormal checklist. A-300 has 2 gear sensor system. Pilot panel showed left main unsafe, so panel showed all gear down and locked. Abnormal checklist says recycle the gear and if either system indicated down and locked perform normal landing. Performed checklist and landed with no problems. Aircraft had a past history of gear warning system being activated but it was during taxi phase of operation. Maintenance personnel switched sensor system at the gate and dispatched aircraft with appropriate MEL placard. Even though the MEL dispatch was correct I don't feel that it is safe to continue operation with a landing gear sensor problem. Next flight was uneventful. I don't know when the problem was finally corrected.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WDB GAR DUE TO AN UNSAFE LNDG GEAR INDICATION.
Narrative: FULLY CONFIGURED, STABLE APCH IN CLR WX, LIGHT WINDS -- AT APPROX 200 FT AGL THE LNDG GEAR WARNING HORN SOUNDED WITH ASSOCIATED L MAIN GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT ON -- PERFORMED MISSED APCH AND REQUESTED EXTENDED DOWNWIND LEG TO PERFORM ABNORMAL CHKLIST. A-300 HAS 2 GEAR SENSOR SYS. PLT PANEL SHOWED L MAIN UNSAFE, SO PANEL SHOWED ALL GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED. ABNORMAL CHKLIST SAYS RECYCLE THE GEAR AND IF EITHER SYS INDICATED DOWN AND LOCKED PERFORM NORMAL LNDG. PERFORMED CHKLIST AND LANDED WITH NO PROBS. ACFT HAD A PAST HISTORY OF GEAR WARNING SYS BEING ACTIVATED BUT IT WAS DURING TAXI PHASE OF OP. MAINT PERSONNEL SWITCHED SENSOR SYS AT THE GATE AND DISPATCHED ACFT WITH APPROPRIATE MEL PLACARD. EVEN THOUGH THE MEL DISPATCH WAS CORRECT I DON'T FEEL THAT IT IS SAFE TO CONTINUE OP WITH A LNDG GEAR SENSOR PROB. NEXT FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PROB WAS FINALLY CORRECTED.
