Narrative:
Air carrier X departed runway 22L with initial turn right to 270 degrees. At 2.6 DME (imdw) after takeoff we were given right turn 060 degrees, contact departure -- chi departure. When contacted, gave right to 090 degrees then 110 degrees. At this point controller said he showed aircraft to be almost 1 mi north of 4 DME arc. We replied that we would increase bank angle. No further conversation. Mdw SID states maintain 4 DME (within) of mdw on initial turn on takeoff. Supplemental information from acn 294475: departed mdw. Midway departure stipulates turn within a specified distance (I think 4 mi). I heard turn to 010 degrees. I made my turn as I heard it. ATC later called to tell me to tighten the turn. My captain informed me that the correct heading was 110 degrees. I tightened the turn but the air traffic controller told me that I had already violated the departure. My captain explained to me to always query any turn not somewhere near due east, due to ord traffic. I wish departure charts could have explanations explaining close-in turns. This would help cement the turn in my mind.

Title: ACR X NON ADHERENCE WITH ATC CLRNC. FAILED TO COMPLY WITH DME TURN RESTR ON SID.
Narrative: ACR X DEPARTED RWY 22L WITH INITIAL TURN R TO 270 DEGS. AT 2.6 DME (IMDW) AFTER TKOF WE WERE GIVEN R TURN 060 DEGS, CONTACT DEP -- CHI DEP. WHEN CONTACTED, GAVE R TO 090 DEGS THEN 110 DEGS. AT THIS POINT CTLR SAID HE SHOWED ACFT TO BE ALMOST 1 MI N OF 4 DME ARC. WE REPLIED THAT WE WOULD INCREASE BANK ANGLE. NO FURTHER CONVERSATION. MDW SID STATES MAINTAIN 4 DME (WITHIN) OF MDW ON INITIAL TURN ON TKOF. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 294475: DEPARTED MDW. MIDWAY DEP STIPULATES TURN WITHIN A SPECIFIED DISTANCE (I THINK 4 MI). I HEARD TURN TO 010 DEGS. I MADE MY TURN AS I HEARD IT. ATC LATER CALLED TO TELL ME TO TIGHTEN THE TURN. MY CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THE CORRECT HDG WAS 110 DEGS. I TIGHTENED THE TURN BUT THE AIR TFC CTLR TOLD ME THAT I HAD ALREADY VIOLATED THE DEP. MY CAPT EXPLAINED TO ME TO ALWAYS QUERY ANY TURN NOT SOMEWHERE NEAR DUE E, DUE TO ORD TFC. I WISH DEP CHARTS COULD HAVE EXPLANATIONS EXPLAINING CLOSE-IN TURNS. THIS WOULD HELP CEMENT THE TURN IN MY MIND.
