Narrative:

X, on clearing runway 36L at high speed taxiway E2, controller told us to 'turn right to wj and hold short runway 36R.' radio transmission was acknowledged and we turned south on taxiway east. After 30 seconds, the controller asked where we were going and then said 'turn left and hold short of runway 36R at wl.' the problem was after clearing runway 36L at taxiway E2, we saw week ahead and thought since txwys a, and B are south, and txwys Y and Z are north, that wj was south of week. However, wj is north of week. The solution would be to have the letters of txwys go n-s or s-n and not have them change in the middle of the airfield, or have the controller simply give a taxiway designator to hold at and not a direction of turn.

Title: ACR X NON ADHERENCE TO ATC INSTRUCTION TAXIED WRONG WAY ON TXWY.

Narrative: X, ON CLRING RWY 36L AT HIGH SPD TXWY E2, CTLR TOLD US TO 'TURN R TO WJ AND HOLD SHORT RWY 36R.' RADIO XMISSION WAS ACKNOWLEDGED AND WE TURNED S ON TXWY E. AFTER 30 SECONDS, THE CTLR ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING AND THEN SAID 'TURN L AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 36R AT WL.' THE PROB WAS AFTER CLRING RWY 36L AT TXWY E2, WE SAW WK AHEAD AND THOUGHT SINCE TXWYS A, AND B ARE S, AND TXWYS Y AND Z ARE N, THAT WJ WAS S OF WK. HOWEVER, WJ IS N OF WK. THE SOLUTION WOULD BE TO HAVE THE LETTERS OF TXWYS GO N-S OR S-N AND NOT HAVE THEM CHANGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AIRFIELD, OR HAVE THE CTLR SIMPLY GIVE A TXWY DESIGNATOR TO HOLD AT AND NOT A DIRECTION OF TURN.
