Narrative:
Heavy jet departs runway 9 out of 3000 ft turned sbound for climb to 10000 ft. Tower departs a westwind jet off runway 17 with a turn to heading 110 degree climbing to 5000 ft. Radar controller issued radar contact with no additional climb. Heavy jet slow to climb, westwind climbing at a rapid rate. Controller stops climb of westwind at 4000 ft, and issued traffic call. Thrust from the westwind climb took the aircraft to 4300 ft. While the heavy jet is climbing through 5100 ft, westwind reports traffic in sight. Told to maintain visual separation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WW24 CLB THROUGH ASSIGNED ALT HAD LTSS FROM ACR HVY JET. SYS ERROR.
Narrative: HVY JET DEPARTS RWY 9 OUT OF 3000 FT TURNED SBOUND FOR CLB TO 10000 FT. TWR DEPARTS A WESTWIND JET OFF RWY 17 WITH A TURN TO HDG 110 DEG CLBING TO 5000 FT. RADAR CTLR ISSUED RADAR CONTACT WITH NO ADDITIONAL CLB. HVY JET SLOW TO CLB, WESTWIND CLBING AT A RAPID RATE. CTLR STOPS CLB OF WESTWIND AT 4000 FT, AND ISSUED TFC CALL. THRUST FROM THE WESTWIND CLB TOOK THE ACFT TO 4300 FT. WHILE THE HVY JET IS CLBING THROUGH 5100 FT, WESTWIND RPTS TFC IN SIGHT. TOLD TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION.
