Narrative:
I taxied up to and held short of runway 1 at intersection delta. I then advised rockford tower that I was ready for takeoff from runway 1 intersection delta. I understood and read back the clearance I heard as 'my aircraft cleared for takeoff runway 1 intersection delta, turn to heading of 140 degrees. On climb out the tower advised me that I had accepted a clearance for takeoff that was for another aircraft. I never thought the clearance was for another aircraft and was never told to hold short or never heard the clearance repeated for the other aircraft. When advised what I had done I apologized and because there was only myself and one other aircraft awaiting takeoff my actions never caused any conflict in the air or on the ground. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TKOF WITHOUT A CLRNC.
Narrative: I TAXIED UP TO AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 1 AT INTXN DELTA. I THEN ADVISED ROCKFORD TWR THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF FROM RWY 1 INTXN DELTA. I UNDERSTOOD AND READ BACK THE CLRNC I HEARD AS 'MY ACFT CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 1 INTXN DELTA, TURN TO HDG OF 140 DEGS. ON CLBOUT THE TWR ADVISED ME THAT I HAD ACCEPTED A CLRNC FOR TKOF THAT WAS FOR ANOTHER ACFT. I NEVER THOUGHT THE CLRNC WAS FOR ANOTHER ACFT AND WAS NEVER TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OR NEVER HEARD THE CLRNC REPEATED FOR THE OTHER ACFT. WHEN ADVISED WHAT I HAD DONE I APOLOGIZED AND BECAUSE THERE WAS ONLY MYSELF AND ONE OTHER ACFT AWAITING TKOF MY ACTIONS NEVER CAUSED ANY CONFLICT IN THE AIR OR ON THE GND. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED.
