Narrative:
Taxiing in to the gate at dtw. At gate, a visual signal given by ramp marshaller of 'chocks in' observed by captain and first officer. Brakes released. Aircraft slowly started rolling backwards. Aircraft stopped by reapplying brakes. No one injured and aircraft made no contact with anything. 'There were no chocks at all.' a new marshaller arrived approximately 2 mins later with chocks and installed them. Aircraft was safely deplaned.

Title: IMPROPER CHOCK PLACEMENT. RAMP OP ACFT PARKING PROC.
Narrative: TAXIING IN TO THE GATE AT DTW. AT GATE, A VISUAL SIGNAL GIVEN BY RAMP MARSHALLER OF 'CHOCKS IN' OBSERVED BY CAPT AND FO. BRAKES RELEASED. ACFT SLOWLY STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. ACFT STOPPED BY REAPPLYING BRAKES. NO ONE INJURED AND ACFT MADE NO CONTACT WITH ANYTHING. 'THERE WERE NO CHOCKS AT ALL.' A NEW MARSHALLER ARRIVED APPROX 2 MINS LATER WITH CHOCKS AND INSTALLED THEM. ACFT WAS SAFELY DEPLANED.
