Narrative:

Because of light snow conditions, the first officer and I discussed procedures and requirements to comply with the flight operations manual. After deice, type I fluid was applied. We expedited to runway 24R and took off within our holdover time. After takeoff, I again reviewed flight operations manual procedures and found that a pre takeoff check should have been done, but was not. The reason it was not done is because the flight operations manual, in one section, says it must be done when holdover time is exceeded, then adds 'note: see pretkof check if holdover time is not exceeded.' I omitted this step. This procedure would be more easily understood if it agreed with the deicing flow chart, and if the terminology were not so confusing.

Title: IMPROPER DEICE PROC. NO PRETKOF INSPECTION.

Narrative: BECAUSE OF LIGHT SNOW CONDITIONS, THE FO AND I DISCUSSED PROCS AND REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLY WITH THE FLT OPS MANUAL. AFTER DEICE, TYPE I FLUID WAS APPLIED. WE EXPEDITED TO RWY 24R AND TOOK OFF WITHIN OUR HOLDOVER TIME. AFTER TKOF, I AGAIN REVIEWED FLT OPS MANUAL PROCS AND FOUND THAT A PRE TKOF CHK SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE, BUT WAS NOT. THE REASON IT WAS NOT DONE IS BECAUSE THE FLT OPS MANUAL, IN ONE SECTION, SAYS IT MUST BE DONE WHEN HOLDOVER TIME IS EXCEEDED, THEN ADDS 'NOTE: SEE PRETKOF CHK IF HOLDOVER TIME IS NOT EXCEEDED.' I OMITTED THIS STEP. THIS PROC WOULD BE MORE EASILY UNDERSTOOD IF IT AGREED WITH THE DEICING FLOW CHART, AND IF THE TERMINOLOGY WERE NOT SO CONFUSING.
