Narrative:
Just passing act VORTAC inbound to dfw at 5000 ft approach issued a traffic alert for 6 O'clock traffic, less than 1 mi, descending through 6000 ft. I asked for a turn and was given an immediate right turn to 090 degrees. When I checked left, I saw 2 F-16's in route formation descending through our altitude about 500 ft away. I obtained their call sign in order to contact the FAA. Approach control informed me that they were VFR and not talking to anyone.
