Narrative:
Climbing out and having turned east on the prado departure we had a climb clearance to 14000 ft. Departure control issued VFR traffic at 10 O'clock and 4 mi at 10100 ft. At that point we were climbing out of 9300 ft. I reduced power to idle and began to level off. At 9500 ft the TCASII issued an advisory to descend, which we did. While in the descent we got another advisory to increase descent. We did and, at the same time I got visual contact with the traffic which appeared to be descending at the same time. The other aircraft passed behind us and slightly higher although at night it is difficult to say how close. We stopped the descent and resumed our climb - now out of 8300 ft. We told ATC of all of our actions as we did them. We were shortly thereafter handed off to ZLA. ATC never said anything more about the traffic and neither did we.

Narrative: CLBING OUT AND HAVING TURNED E ON THE PRADO DEP WE HAD A CLB CLRNC TO 14000 FT. DEP CTL ISSUED VFR TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK AND 4 MI AT 10100 FT. AT THAT POINT WE WERE CLBING OUT OF 9300 FT. I REDUCED PWR TO IDLE AND BEGAN TO LEVEL OFF. AT 9500 FT THE TCASII ISSUED AN ADVISORY TO DSND, WHICH WE DID. WHILE IN THE DSCNT WE GOT ANOTHER ADVISORY TO INCREASE DSCNT. WE DID AND, AT THE SAME TIME I GOT VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE TFC WHICH APPEARED TO BE DSNDING AT THE SAME TIME. THE OTHER ACFT PASSED BEHIND US AND SLIGHTLY HIGHER ALTHOUGH AT NIGHT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SAY HOW CLOSE. WE STOPPED THE DSCNT AND RESUMED OUR CLB - NOW OUT OF 8300 FT. WE TOLD ATC OF ALL OF OUR ACTIONS AS WE DID THEM. WE WERE SHORTLY THEREAFTER HANDED OFF TO ZLA. ATC NEVER SAID ANYTHING MORE ABOUT THE TFC AND NEITHER DID WE.
