Narrative:
We were level at 16000 ft when ATC advised us of a VFR aircraft in 12 O'clock position 5 mi or so at 15500 ft. We acknowledged and found him visually as well as on TCASII. Aircraft subsequently went from 500 ft to 400 ft to 300 ft below us as we approached. We received and followed an RA climbing to 16500 ft. During maneuver, we advised ATC of situation and that the aircraft was at our altitude although he may still have been 200 ft below us at the time. ATC did not acknowledge. 20 seconds later or so we advised ATC we were departing 16500 ft following an RA and descending back to our assigned altitude of 16000 ft. ATC responded with a clearance to another altitude and other information. ATC never acknowledged the situation. While I am on the subject, I have been repeatedly vectored behind B757 aircraft at distances that I believe are inappropriate, given visual clearance and then required to maintain an airspeed, and a few other occurrences that just seem to show that lax is trying to jam more aircraft into the airport than they should. If they can't do it right -- they should reduce the flow.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TCASII. FLC EVASIVE ACTION AWAY FROM INTRUDER ACFT WHICH APPARENTLY CONTINUED TO CLB TO RPTR ACFT ALT. ARTCC CTLR NEVER RESPONDED TO FLC'S RPT OF CONFLICTING TFC.
Narrative: WE WERE LEVEL AT 16000 FT WHEN ATC ADVISED US OF A VFR ACFT IN 12 O'CLOCK POS 5 MI OR SO AT 15500 FT. WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND FOUND HIM VISUALLY AS WELL AS ON TCASII. ACFT SUBSEQUENTLY WENT FROM 500 FT TO 400 FT TO 300 FT BELOW US AS WE APCHED. WE RECEIVED AND FOLLOWED AN RA CLBING TO 16500 FT. DURING MANEUVER, WE ADVISED ATC OF SIT AND THAT THE ACFT WAS AT OUR ALT ALTHOUGH HE MAY STILL HAVE BEEN 200 FT BELOW US AT THE TIME. ATC DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE. 20 SECONDS LATER OR SO WE ADVISED ATC WE WERE DEPARTING 16500 FT FOLLOWING AN RA AND DSNDING BACK TO OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF 16000 FT. ATC RESPONDED WITH A CLRNC TO ANOTHER ALT AND OTHER INFO. ATC NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE SIT. WHILE I AM ON THE SUBJECT, I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY VECTORED BEHIND B757 ACFT AT DISTANCES THAT I BELIEVE ARE INAPPROPRIATE, GIVEN VISUAL CLRNC AND THEN REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN AN AIRSPD, AND A FEW OTHER OCCURRENCES THAT JUST SEEM TO SHOW THAT LAX IS TRYING TO JAM MORE ACFT INTO THE ARPT THAN THEY SHOULD. IF THEY CAN'T DO IT RIGHT -- THEY SHOULD REDUCE THE FLOW.
