Narrative:

When departing C concourse on what appears to be taxiway cn, traveling east on the north side of the concourse to control. Then ground cleared us to cross lima, taxi to runway 17R on M. As we taxied, he realized we had a long ATC hold and cleared us to runway 17L on taxiway ed right on taxiway P to hold on P9. As we taxied on ed, an airplane landed on runway 17R over the top of us. When ground was questioned, he stated, we were told to hold short of ed. Even looking back it appears we were on ed since leaving the gate on the north side of concourse C. Reference pg 10-9. How do you hold short of a taxiway you are on. I do not believe we were told to hold short of ed. There would have been an immediate question of that clearance since I believed we were on ed. This needs to be clarified on the charts and in the terminology used by the ground control.
