Narrative:

Zan sent message via communication radio HF to 'proceed direct cold bay, direct spy' I started a right turn toward cold bay when clearance was received but immediately turned back left on course when I found cold bay to be a 70 degree right turn. I notified communication radio to send to zan that I could not accept clearance because of safety reasons and was proceeding on course, track 'east.' the clearance was improper in that it did not have anything past spy. Also I had serious doubt that, if I accepted such a clearance, I would have jeopardized my fuel to the destination. The purpose of the report is that zan, after later contact, asked if I had returned to track 'east' without a clearance. My response was I never got off track 'east' so I didn't return without a clearance. The solution would be better radio communication and eliminate communication radio transferring ATC clrncs via a very poor HF communication link.

Title: AMENDED CLRNC RTE CHANGE WITH NO CONTINUING ROUTING.

Narrative: ZAN SENT MESSAGE VIA COM RADIO HF TO 'PROCEED DIRECT COLD BAY, DIRECT SPY' I STARTED A R TURN TOWARD COLD BAY WHEN CLRNC WAS RECEIVED BUT IMMEDIATELY TURNED BACK L ON COURSE WHEN I FOUND COLD BAY TO BE A 70 DEG R TURN. I NOTIFIED COM RADIO TO SEND TO ZAN THAT I COULD NOT ACCEPT CLRNC BECAUSE OF SAFETY REASONS AND WAS PROCEEDING ON COURSE, TRACK 'E.' THE CLRNC WAS IMPROPER IN THAT IT DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING PAST SPY. ALSO I HAD SERIOUS DOUBT THAT, IF I ACCEPTED SUCH A CLRNC, I WOULD HAVE JEOPARDIZED MY FUEL TO THE DEST. THE PURPOSE OF THE RPT IS THAT ZAN, AFTER LATER CONTACT, ASKED IF I HAD RETURNED TO TRACK 'E' WITHOUT A CLRNC. MY RESPONSE WAS I NEVER GOT OFF TRACK 'E' SO I DIDN'T RETURN WITHOUT A CLRNC. THE SOLUTION WOULD BE BETTER RADIO COM AND ELIMINATE COM RADIO TRANSFERRING ATC CLRNCS VIA A VERY POOR HF COM LINK.
