Narrative:
On descent from FL280 to 17000 ft, failed to reset altimeters to 29.36 from 29.92. ATC advised us that we were approaching 16500 ft. Altimeters were immediately reset and the altitude was immediately corrected to 17000 ft MSL. We were deviating around and over a line of thunderstorms and were somewhat distracted and failed to reset altimeters passing FL180. This once again underscores the importance of using checklists.
