Narrative:
We were heading approximately 060 degrees cleared to intercept runway 9L localizer cleared for the approach behind another aircraft. The traffic in front of us was pointed out as was the traffic at our 11 O'clock, high. We had visual contact with the 2 airliners and at the same time I caught sight of a TCASII target showing yellow minus 600 ft on my vsi. Almost immediately TCASII gave an RA with the words climb! Climb! Climb! Sounding. This continued as I climbed to 5000 ft. While climbing, tower turned us to a 140 degree heading. We never saw the traffic causing the conflict and tower said they saw nothing. We were turned back in and cleared to land which we did with no further problem. Visibility was good, but there was a scattered cloud layer at approximately 4500-5000 ft.
