Narrative:
Approximately 1 hour out of anc the #4 smoke detector light on the main deck illuminated along with the fire warning on glare shield (horn sounded). We initiated communication procedure and noticed light went out per procedure we went back to anc. I (so) inspected the main deck cargo area and noticed a smell similar to nail polish at 17L/right zone. Flight back to anc was uneventful. Maintenance could not duplicate smoke detector coming on during ground time. Replaced detector.
