Narrative:
On departure from dfw runway 18L, heading 180 degrees, climbing to 10000 ft, departure control turned us call sign XXXA to a heading of 270 degrees. Then we were told to level at 9000 ft. We then all heard 'call sign XXXA, climb to 17000 ft.' I set in 17000 ft in the altitude reminder and began a climb to 17000 ft after the captain read back 'call sign XXXA climb to 17000 ft.' as we started our climb through 10000 ft, call sign flight #XXXB told departure that another flight may have acknowledged their clearance. Departure then cleared call sign XXXA to 17000 ft, expedite through 12000 ft. Traffic 10 O'clock, 06 mi. The captain checked the TCASII, visually acquired the traffic and we expedited through 12000 ft as instructed. TCASII gave no TA or RA and there was never a conflict. The readback of the captain was most probably blocked by call sign XXXB's readback, but his call to departure alerted us all.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CLRNC REPLY TO WRONG CALL SIGN - ANOTHER ACR ANSWERED THE RPTR'S CLRNC FROM TRACON AND STARTED TO PERFORM THE MANEUVER, BUT THE VARIOUS PARTIES STRAIGHTENED EVERYTHING OUT BEFORE HARM WAS DONE.
Narrative: ON DEP FROM DFW RWY 18L, HDG 180 DEGS, CLBING TO 10000 FT, DEP CTL TURNED US CALL SIGN XXXA TO A HDG OF 270 DEGS. THEN WE WERE TOLD TO LEVEL AT 9000 FT. WE THEN ALL HEARD 'CALL SIGN XXXA, CLB TO 17000 FT.' I SET IN 17000 FT IN THE ALT REMINDER AND BEGAN A CLB TO 17000 FT AFTER THE CAPT READ BACK 'CALL SIGN XXXA CLB TO 17000 FT.' AS WE STARTED OUR CLB THROUGH 10000 FT, CALL SIGN FLT #XXXB TOLD DEP THAT ANOTHER FLT MAY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THEIR CLRNC. DEP THEN CLRED CALL SIGN XXXA TO 17000 FT, EXPEDITE THROUGH 12000 FT. TFC 10 O'CLOCK, 06 MI. THE CAPT CHKED THE TCASII, VISUALLY ACQUIRED THE TFC AND WE EXPEDITED THROUGH 12000 FT AS INSTRUCTED. TCASII GAVE NO TA OR RA AND THERE WAS NEVER A CONFLICT. THE READBACK OF THE CAPT WAS MOST PROBABLY BLOCKED BY CALL SIGN XXXB'S READBACK, BUT HIS CALL TO DEP ALERTED US ALL.
