Narrative:

After takeoff at atlanta we received a request from dispatch to confirm the child count. The first flight attendant informed me we had 4 children aboard. This was my first indication the load closeout was incorrect as it had a child count of 5. After this information was sent to dispatch a request returned to confirm the passenger count. This was accomplished and confirmed the original count of 89. I was later informed that an additional 500 pounds of mail had been loaded at atl that did not show up in the load closeout. This resulted in us leaving the ramp above maximum ramp weight, 98885 pounds, and above maximum takeoff weight, 98220 pounds. This was written up at dfw and an overweight inspection was accomplished.
