Narrative:
After flying aircraft X 2 or 3 times, the last of which was on apr/fri/95, it was discovered by the crew flying aircraft X on may/fri/95 that the airworthiness certificate still had the old tail number from when the aircraft was in service with another air carrier. I was told that the process of getting a new airworthiness certificate was 'in the works' and that it was 'just a formality' to get the new airworthiness certificate to read the new tail number, namely aircraft X. Be this as it may, a hard copy should be with the aircraft prior to future flight, and this operation is reflected in the company, now, not flying the aircraft until the problem can be resolved. I was also told that this is a maintenance and company function. However, this notification is made out of the concern for other pilots not to make the same mistake.

Title: FAR. ACR FLEW A RECENTLY PURCHASED ACFT WITH THE OLD AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE REFLECTING THE OLD REGISTRATION (TAIL) NUMBER.
Narrative: AFTER FLYING ACFT X 2 OR 3 TIMES, THE LAST OF WHICH WAS ON APR/FRI/95, IT WAS DISCOVERED BY THE CREW FLYING ACFT X ON MAY/FRI/95 THAT THE AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE STILL HAD THE OLD TAIL NUMBER FROM WHEN THE ACFT WAS IN SVC WITH ANOTHER ACR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROCESS OF GETTING A NEW AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE WAS 'IN THE WORKS' AND THAT IT WAS 'JUST A FORMALITY' TO GET THE NEW AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE TO READ THE NEW TAIL NUMBER, NAMELY ACFT X. BE THIS AS IT MAY, A HARD COPY SHOULD BE WITH THE ACFT PRIOR TO FUTURE FLT, AND THIS OP IS REFLECTED IN THE COMPANY, NOW, NOT FLYING THE ACFT UNTIL THE PROB CAN BE RESOLVED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS IS A MAINT AND COMPANY FUNCTION. HOWEVER, THIS NOTIFICATION IS MADE OUT OF THE CONCERN FOR OTHER PLTS NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE.
