Narrative:
I rented a BE95 for a pleasure flight. I accomplished a normal preflight and made a normal takeoff. The landing gear failed to retract. After 2 attempts to retract the gear, including pulling and resetting the circuit breaker, I returned to the field and made a normal landing. FAA inspectors were on the field in the tower and decided to accomplish a ramp check. My medical and pilot's certificate were in order. Inspection of the airworthiness certificate and registration, both displayed properly, showed a discrepancy between the 'north' numbers. The 'north' number had been changed and was correct on the registration, but the airworthiness certificate reflected the original 'north' number. During a previous discussion with the ia who maintained the airplane, he mentioned this, but said it was correct since the serial number was correct on both documents. I took his word, and failed to check the regulations for specifics.
